The added gear has to be priced in relation, but we also have to keep the high quality that Vocas is known for. For this reason Vocas has developed a very unique follow focus that is totally different from all other follow focus systems currently in the market! Can you imagine a follow focus system that is 100% playless? The Vocas MFC-3F has no transmission between the focus knob and the drive gear, so we can guarantee a 100% playless follow focus! Read on to learn more about our newest innovation. 100% Playless The unique feature of the new follow focus system MFC-3 is that the focus knob and drive gear consist of only one part, there is no transmission in the new MFC-3. This is a direct drive, and because of the elimination of internal gears, there can never be any difference in the motion going in and going out, making it 100% playless, Vocas can guarantee you that! This design also results in the MFC-3 having a 1:1 'transmission' ratio making it ideal for lenses with a small focus throw such as DSLR lenses and smaller cameras with integrated lenses. Additionally, because of the elimination of internal gears the lifespan of the product is increased dramatically. The unique shape of the drive gear teeth is what makes this all possible. These specially shaped teeth can push the gear ring of the lens up or down when rotating the focus knob the same way a camera operator is used to Two versions There are 2 versions of the MFC-3, the standard version and the F version. The MFC-3F has one additional feature over the standard version, namely it has an adjustable friction build in. Rotating the red dial on the focus knob allows you to fine tune the internal friction of the MFC-3F to your own preference. Ergonomics This follow focus is angled slightly downwards for more comfort and can be rotated horizontally to a certain extent to make operating it even more ergonomic Reversible rotation direction The rotation direction can also be reversed. This is easily done by moving the follow focus forward and backwards to let the gear grip the lens on the left or right side of the drive gear. Palm support As with the highly successful Vocas MFC-2, a palm support accessory is available for the MFC-3. This palm support makes it possible to focus the lens and support the camera at the same time! You no longer have to worry about your camera shaking when you switch from supporting your camera to operating the follow focus. Right handgrip Want to support the camera on both sides without purchasing another bracket for it? We have a rosette accessory for the right side of the MFC-3 15 mm bracket, which allows you to mount a handgrip on the same bracket.

Zacuto Z-Drive SKU: Z-DRV The Zacuto Z-Drive is a unique, universal direct drive follow focus, designed with single operator shoulder mounted rigs in mind. Because it has a universal joint and no internal gears it can’t develop play. It attaches to a single 15mm diameter rod and curves away from the operator at a 60 degree angle creating space and distance from the lens for comfortable use when the camera is on your shoulder. This is the perfect follow focus for a Recoil kit set up (where the camera is directly over your shoulder) as it brings focus control further forward as well as down for comfortable operation. The Z-Drive can operate in four modes and is extremely adjustable for all size lenses. It can operate on the camera assistant or operators side of the rig positioned forward toward the lens or backward towards the tripod/dolly etc.. This makes for easy operation with a standard follow focus whip used on a tripod. The Z-Drive slides onto a single 15mm diameter rod (on the left or right of your camera) and tightens in place next to your lens with a Zacuto quick-release ratcheting red lever. It comes with a fixed 1 ¾” diameter .8 pitch gear to connect to your lens. If your lenses are not pitched to .8 or are not pitched at all (most DSLR and basic video camera lenses are not) you can add our Zipgear Universal to your lens so the teeth match our gear correctly for smooth rotation. The ZipGears can be cut to fit the circumference of your lens and tightened with an Allen key. These ZipGear straps are pitched to .8 and are 13.5” long. With some smaller lenses a larger gear for the Z-Drive may be helpful. The 60mm Z-Drive Gear screws directly to the gear of Z-Drives purchased after Dec 8,2015 The Z-Drive Follow Focus has a slender marking disc to create distance marks for repeatable focus pulls and a standard whip port. We recommend using the Z-Drive with our Tornado grip when working handheld. The Tornado attaches to the Z-Drive whip port and works in tandem with the Z-Drive to create a unique mechanical follow focus handgrip perfect for single operator shoulder mounted work
